DragonBorne: issues five to eight, with numbered prints
Print capital for the next four issues of the serialised fantasy comic whose certificates let a reader prove which print number they hold.
The project
DragonBorne is four issues into a twelve-issue arc, written by Eszter Balogh and drawn in-house in Budapest. What turned a small book into a collectable one was not the story: it was that every copy ships with an on-chain certificate tying it to a specific print number, so a reader can prove they hold number 84 of 2,000 rather than merely say so.
Issues one to four have sold 7,100 copies between them, and the secondary market for numbered first-printings of issue one is now running at roughly nine times cover. The studio has captured none of that, which is the point of the certificates and also the frustration of them.
This loan funds issues five to eight: print, colour, and the two-page fold-out that issue six needs. Repaid monthly from direct sales and the four comic shops that now stock it standing.
