Questions people actually ask
If the answer is not here, the loan pages have their own FAQ tab and every live loan has a room where you can put the question to the borrower directly.
Lending
- Do I get anything other than money back?
- No. This is a loan, not a pre-order. There are no reward tiers and nothing ships to you. Some borrowers separately offer lenders a discount on their own product, that is their arrangement and it is never part of the loan terms.
- What is the minimum?
- It varies by loan, from 0.25 to 1 BSV. Below that the cost of servicing a position exceeds the coupon it earns, which is unfair to everyone else on the loan.
- Can I get my money out early?
- Not as of right. You can list a position for transfer and we do not guarantee a buyer. On a thirty-six-month loan, assume there will not be one.
- How is the coupon calculated?
- Simple interest, principal × rate × years, not compounded. A 12% coupon on 10 BSV over two years pays 2.4 BSV. It is already net of the 0.75% servicing fee.
- What happens if a loan does not fully fund?
- Below 60% of target the campaign closes and every lender is returned in full. Between 60% and 100% the borrower may accept the reduced amount with a proportionally reduced scope, and that is disclosed on the listing before you lend.
When things go wrong
- A loan I am in has gone late. What happens?
- The borrower must post an update within 72 hours. If the instalment is not cured or restructured by the next due date the loan moves to default and a case opens automatically. You will be able to read the file, add evidence, and vote on the recovery route.
- How does the vote work?
- Fourteen days, weighted by principal, simple majority. Abstentions do not count toward the majority. The result binds the platform.
- Can I open a case myself?
- Yes, on any loan you hold a position in, for any reason. The button is on the loan page beside Save, and on every row of your portfolio. One of the cases on this platform was a disclosure complaint against a borrower who was paying perfectly well. It was not upheld, and it is still published.
- What do lenders typically recover?
- There is one data point and it is not encouraging: the indicative range on the defaulted loan is 25–33% of principal before costs. Assume a default means losing most of the position.
Wallet and account
- Which wallet do I need?
- A BRC-100 wallet. This build runs a demo wallet so the product can be walked without one installed: it is labelled wherever it matters and it generates no keys.
- Do you hold my keys?
- No, and there is no code that could. The wallet interface exposes availability, connect, read identity key, and request payment. Nothing in it can return a private key.
- How do I become a borrower?
- Start an application. It takes about forty minutes and a reviewer comes back within a week, either with a priced term sheet or a straight no and the reason.
